Celebrate Willie Nelson

Image
At 42 I've learned this life is one big lesson. It's humbling and sometimes hard to navigate. Every day we lose another loved one and we learn another lesson. It makes me value our treasures that we have in life. People who have graced this earth with a special talent or message. Willie Nelson is one of those people. The passion he sings his songs and the artists he's collaborated with is unrivaled. From Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings to Snoop Dogg he never stops performing. At 85 we have no idea how long my man Willie will continue. But, as I hear Highwayman in the background I hope it's not for a long time. I want to truly appreciate him, but can I? I'm now 44 years old and reading my draft for the first time in a while. How quickly time flies. But, my man Willie Nelson is still alive! I fucking love Willie! I think of him saying, "You know Snoopy a little while back I had one of those, carpal tunnel operations". Willie not afraid to fuck with Snoop b...

Bobby Brown's Tainted Legacy

Do you think that Bobby Brown naming his kids Bobby Jr. and Bobbie has anything to do with their death? Not that Bobby Brown killed them, but did he suffocate their spirit by making their life all about him? It's normal to have a Jr. Although I don't agree with it. Many dad's favor a Jr. How about if you name multiple children the same name? George Foreman is famous for naming his kids after himself. Well, Bobby Brown did the same thing. Now, he's lost two children to overdose/suicide. I'm not trying to discourage people from naming their kids after themselves, or trying to blame Bobby Brown for anyone's death. But, how can so many deaths happen in one family? Did these kids have trouble finding themselves in a world dedicated to Bobby?

Which Musician has the biggest balls of them all?

I have my own choices for the biggest balls amongst musicians. It could be today, or 100 years ago. Who do you think has had the biggest balls among musicians all-time? My choices are below. 1. Jim Morrison - He improvised the song The End in the Whiskey A Go Go. That is now the lyrics in the song. He got arrested in Florida for exposure. This guy wrote the book for artists, in my opinion. 2. Tupac - Where do I start? Only Morrison has bigger balls than Tupac. Or, does he? This is debatable. I might change this by tomorrow. But, should I feel confident I have the correct 2? Cobain Jimi Hendrix Janis Joplin eazy e ice cube snoop elvis johnny cash hank williams'

Nipsey Hussle

Image
I’ll be honest. I listened to Nipsey Hussle before he was shot and murdered. But, I wasn’t a fan. I think he has skills as a rapper. But, he has too many songs with auto tune for my taste. I’d rather you keep it raw and real. I’m not hating though, because it’s popular these days. Although I do think he has great lyrics and is one of those next level writers. He didn't rap about the normal stuff, he kept it real and wrote about life.  I’m not writing because of his rapping skills though. As a 42 year old man, I remember every rapper since the mid 80s. Kool Moe Dee was the first rapper I remember, besides rapper’s delight. With Wild Wild West and How you Like me Now he was a pioneer, trust me. Run DMC, LL Cool J, Eazy E, Cube, Dre, Tupac, Biggie, Wutang, Eminem, etc. I have experienced the entire revolution. What I have found is that there are leaders and there are followers. There are also specific pockets of time with multiple legendary rappers. While there are also gaps of ...

Rap Algorithm

The Rap Algorithm The art of rap is complicated. Just like any other genre or subject, declaring the best requires multiple factors. It requires breakdown in those areas and then combining the  measurable and the intangibles.  It practically requires an algorithm. That’s why it’s funny when people try to clearly declare their winner. Except they don’t remove the bias and dissect culture while including X factors. I’m not the expert but I’ve listened to more rap than most have. From guys like Kool Moe Dee and groups like Run DMC to Eminem and Lil Wayne. As well as most in between. I have my favorites but that doesn’t make them the best. I want to try and take the personal feelings out of it and make it objective. It’ll never be concrete. Anything subjective can never be objective. But, I believe I could make it understandable.  Nobody can ever declare a true best in most areas. Even in sports like tennis where it’s individual and guys like Roger Federer is pro...

Hank Williams family tradition

I'm a different breed. I listen to rap, rock, and country. I'm the only child of my mother and father together but I do have a brother and sister that I love very much. Although each of us is of different ethnic origins we were all raised together for most of our childhood. Having a white brother and being half Mexican while having a half black sister, you get a different view of life. But this isn't about me. This is about an iconic family. While many families just try to make it in this world others are ascending even after their previous generations had already reached ridiculous heights. One of these families is the 3 Hanks. Hank Williams Sr., Jr., and even the third. Let's start with Hank Williams Sr. Many musicians have covered his songs and credit him with being a country western music pioneer. Although many people call it country I really prefer the western style. It mostly started with Hank Williams Sr. With songs like I'm so lonesome I can cry, Your ch...
